建築師隈研吾透過這本小書分享了東京都內各城區中其經手設計個案的初始意念。

觀看東京的都市計畫和西方城市最大的不同，就如同Roland Barthes所說，「城市的中心是被”空”所圍繞的」。以”空”為起點，隈研吾環繞著都心(皇居的森林)分享了自已對東京各城區當前建築的私人觀察，回到自身建築設計對此所產生的思考和自省。涉谷、代官山、表參道、新宿、目白、池袋……，伴隨著建築概念草圖側寫，一一探訪。
